Why I chose Photography

Why did I choose Photography?

I’ve recently been asked, “Why I chose Photography.” Photography for some people is just a hobby and something to do. To me its way more than that, it isn’t about taking a bunch of pictures and calling it a day. It’s about telling a story with your photographs that you take. There are so many ways to tell a story through a picture and allows for limitless creativity. From meeting new people in college, I have learned a lot about not just photography but about myself. I found new ways to take a picture and what to look for. Having a lot of opportunities in college gave me so many tools to use during my photography journey. I also enjoy meeting new clients and helping them capture moments that matter.

I’ve recently come across a perfect quote written by Elliott Erwitt. This quote reads “To me, photography is an art of observation. It’s about finding something interesting in an ordinary place… I’ve found it has little to do with the things you see and everything to do with the way you see them.” I really enjoyed this quote and he is completely right. It isn’t about what you see but has everything to do with the way you see things. Everyone has different viewpoints, and might not see your viewpoint. Photography gives me the artistic freedom to create new things and new ideas.

“The whole point of taking pictures is so that you don’t have to explain things in words.” This was written by the same person as above. That’s something else I love about photography, the fact you can explain something without words. What I capture through my lens speaks for itself, there are no words needed. Everyone knows the phrase “a picture says a thousand words” and they’re right. Pictures are so powerful and can capture every mood, and just tell you so much about what’s happening.

Feel free to post why you chose photography and what you love most about it!
